The Lifeboat Log was born from my love of the RNLI, lifeboats, and being by the water – whether that's the coast or a peaceful reservoir. It all started innocently enough: I began visiting lifeboat stations on trips away and collecting pin badges along the way. Like any good spreadsheet enthusiast, I recorded everything in Excel – station names, dates, badges collected, you know the drill.
But let's be honest, spreadsheets are great for data but terrible for fun! I wanted something better, more engaging, and a bit more… social. So I decided to create The Lifeboat Log – a place where fellow lifeboat enthusiasts could track their visits, share their experiences, follow real-time launches, and connect with like-minded people who understand the thrill of seeing a lifeboat ready for action.
This project is a labour of love built in my spare time (between IT projects, volunteering shifts, and attempting to keep my pin badge collection organized). My hope is that it helps bring the community of lifeboat supporters together and makes exploring these incredible coastal heroes a bit more fun and rewarding.

Tim Copson
My full time job is an IT Consultant, living in the beautiful Peak District of Derbyshire. When I'm not behind a keyboard, you'll find me volunteering with Surrey Scouts and Derbyshire 4x4 Response – basically, I like helping people and getting muddy (sometimes both at once!). I've had a lifelong fascination with the RNLI and lifeboats from a young age, probably sparked by too many seaside holidays and a healthy respect for the sea. Fun fact: I collect lifeboat station pin badges and have an embarrassing number of photos of orange boats!
